Mynd (installation) 2000 Steina Vasulka

The video-documentary captures the installation Mynd, which Steina Vasulka created under the commission of the National Gallery of Iceland. She was inspired by the generous gallery space and the Icelandic landscape. The author used a video from the Orka project and digitally manipulated it. The scanned images capture the process of transformation of natural motifs, especially the water element, into abstracted electronic images, which gradually disappear in white noise of electronic media. She projected them onto six, large-format screens suspended from the gallery ceiling to the floor. Three images were projected horizontally and three (turned to the side) vertically. In addition, the vertically projected images were stretched to cover the entire screen from top to bottom, just like the horizontal shots.
